In-Office Procedures

Essure is a hormone free option that can be performed in office  for permanent sterilization.  Essure coils are placed into the fallopian tubes, transvaginally  causing the body to create a natural barrier that will prevent pregnancy.  No incisions or anesthesia is required. The procedure takes approximately 10-15 minutes in the office. More information can be found at www.essure.com

Novasure is an in office procedure for the treatment of heavy menstrual cycles in premenopausal or perimenopausal  women. A  net like device is inserted into the uterus and the endometrial lining is removed by radioablation.  The total time of the procedure is less than 5 minutes.  The procedure is performed transvaginally and does not require anesthesia or incisions. NovaSure is not for sterilization and pregnancy after this procedure can be dangerous.  This procedure is intended for those who do not desire future pregnancy.  Please visit www.novasure.com for more information.

Family Planning

Madonna OBGYN has programs to help regulate the number and spacing of children in a family through the practice of contraception or other methods of birth control.

Treatment of Menstrual Disorders

Women who experience abnormal menstrual periods should keep track of their menstrual cycle and symptoms using a journal and calendar. We help young adolescents and women to treat menstrual disorders.

Endometriosis is a painful, chronic disease that affects many women and girls. It occurs when tissue like that which lines the uterus (tissue called the endometrium) is found outside the uterus — usually in the abdomen on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and ligaments that support the uterus; the area between the vagina and rectum; the outer surface of the uterus; and the lining of the pelvic cavity. Other sites for these endometrial growths may include the bladder, bowel, vagina, cervix, vulva, and in abdominal surgical scars. Less commonly they are found in the lung, arm, thigh, and other locations.

Diagnosis is considered uncertain until proven by laparoscopy, a minor surgical procedure done under anesthesia. A laparoscopy usually shows the location, size, and extent of the growths.

Birth control, also known as contraception and fertility control, are methods or devices used to prevent pregnancy. Planning, provision and use of birth control is called family planning. There are several options to consider when choosing the right form of contraception that we can help with.

Teen Gynecologic Care

Madonna OBGYN understands that the needs of teens and young women are different from those of older women, and we take this into account in how we approach the care provided to our teen patients. We create a safe and welcoming environment where young girls feel comfortable talking to our physicians and staff about their health questions and concerns.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Advances in computer technology and laparoscopic instruments have allowed our field to offer a minimally invasive approach to a much broader range of patients. The field of gynecologic surgery is proudly included in this medical and surgical marvel.

As of today, many procedures can be successfully done by a minimally invasive approach in most patients including:

  • Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus)
  • Oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries)
  • Myomectomy (removal of the fibroids)
  • Treatment of endometriosis and pelvic pain

Menopause Guidance & Treatment

Menopause is defined as the absence of menses for 12 consecutive months. Perimenopause is the transitional period between normal menses and menopause.
