Microblading 101: What you need to know about eyebrow microblading
Eyebrow trends may change throughout time, like the full bushy brows in the 80s to the thin pencil lines in the 90s. One thing that maintains through the ages is having enough eyebrow hairs to fill in whatever shape is on trend. Makeup is often the go-to solution for sparse brows, but for those who want a more permanent solution, there is eyebrow microblading. How does it work?
Microblading is a tattoo technique
The training, tools, and technique are different than what you’d see at a traditional tattoo parlor, but you are still embedding ink underneath the top layers of the skin. A pen-like tool is used to “feather” fine, hair-like lines into the brows.
The ink is semi-permanent
Unlike traditional tattoos, the ink will fade in 3-5 years. This will allow for keeping on trend with eyebrow shaping, but is something to consider when factoring in the risks and costs of this treatment.
Expect some irritation
There is no traditional downtime, but there is a healing process. Much like any tattoo, the skin will be irritated and dry after the microblading treatment. A serum is provided in your aftercare to help soothe the irritation, but since greasy eyebrows aren’t considered sexy, it pays to schedule your microblading appointment when you don’t have any significant events or photo opportunities looming.
Beautifully Sculpted Eyebrows
- Should I get an eyebrow transplant or microblading?
“Microblading is a semi-permanent method of enhancing eyebrows with tattoo pigments. The brows appear darker first, but fade over the two weeks following treatment. The results last from one to three years. Hair transplants in contrast are permanent. They will require trimming, however, as the transplanted hair grows like scalp hair. Microblading, as it fades, can be always be followed by transplants, if desired.
- Is it normal for the color to flake off in the first week?
“Fading almost to the point of it appearing to have disappeared is normal. It takes roughly four to six weeks to see the final healed result. In some cases, some of the color can still return. Most technicians offer a touch-up after the first procedure to perfect the eyebrows.”
- Why do my eyebrows look darker the next day?
“It is normal for the brows to feel thicker and darker right after microblading. They will fade within days to weeks. Be patient, it will get better.”
- Can I undo or reverse microblading results?
“It is possible to lighten and correct most brows. The pigment will fade in time, and there are ways of helping the pigment fade a little quicker.”
- How much does microblading cost?
According to local community reviews, the average cost of microblading is $425 – $800.
